Stéphane Drillon
My work as a visual artist is multifaceted. It can take the form of figurative works that explore the relationship between art and reality, as well as abstract works that emerge from a process (research into monochromy, the reinterpretation of poems in the form of barcodes, etc.). My work also often engages with literary authors (Heiner Müller, Mikhail Bulgakov, Don DeLillo, Antoine Volodine, Kenneth Bernard, etc.). This work can be viewed on the website sholby.net.
Architectural Drawings
Alongside this body of pictorial work, I have been developing, for several years, a series of figurative works created digitally around an architectural theme. Produced on an iPad for line drawing and in Photoshop for digital painting and composition, they are intended as fine-art prints, produced in editions of five, each numbered and signed.
Each building depicted is removed from its context through the contrasting graphic treatment of the subject and its immediate surroundings, which are simply sketched in pencil against a uniform, light-colored background. This brings attention to buildings that we ordinarily pass without paying them much notice. This series of drawings invites viewers to look at their surroundings with fresh eyes
